Overview:
My only major project with composites was building a 1.5m discus launch glider (DLG), which used the wet layup technique to cover foam core with low density fiberglass and carbon fiber. I am also acquainted with other methods such as molding and vacuum bagging thanks to the tutorials provided by Easy Composites Ltd , but have had no hands-on experience just yet. In the future I plan to make a more complex composite aircraft using 3D printed molds.
With that being said, the DLG was quite nimble despite grossly surpassing the estimated weight, and still flies years after I made it!
1.5m DLG (2022)
Wet layup and completed set of wings. I later changed the control surfaces to balsa (+1
layer of fiberglass)
for better rigidity.
3D printed fuselage pod for electronics. In hindsight I should've used a different material
as this was
the primary weakspot when crashing.
