Spaghetti bridge engineering contest [2023]
Our engineering class had a spaghetti bridge contest, with the allowed materials being spaghetti,
fishing wire, and 3D printing (for joints only). My bridge ended up holding 24 kilograms, while
weighing 185 grams. That's a strength/weight ratio of 130!
For reference, an A+ on this project
was to get a ratio of 10.
As you can see, I did not cut any corners with this project. FEA, physical structural buckling testing,
you name it. I made it so that the safety factor of all load bearing beams were equal, meaning the entire bridge
would fail all at once theoretically.
